GPCSO Event Announcements

Keeping You and Your Pyr in Touch With Your Club

Greetings

Great Pyrenees Club of Southern Ontario (GPCSO) has a varied schedule of events throughout the year. This e-zine provides the latest and most current news about these events. It is our way of keeping you informed so there's no need to ever miss a GPCSO event again.

We also provide news about dog related events in the Club's territory that may be of interest to our members and visitors.

Hello!

Here are your GPCSO events for 2013. We will send out reminders from time to time so you don't miss any opportunity to enjoy your club.

Events for 2013

MAY 12, 2013 REGIONAL SPECIALTY

On Sunday, May 12, 2013, we will be holding our Regional Specialty in conjunction with the Forest City Kennel Club, located in Belmont, Ontario. Belmont is located between Woodstock and London.

Nancy Coombs from Gettysburg, PA will be our judge for the Specialty. We will also be holding Sweepstakes and Junior Handling.

NOTE: There is a new class of entry – Baby Puppy. Baby Puppy is 3 – 6 months. So this is a perfect opportunity to bring your new puppy and get him/her exposed to showing.

Direction: At exit 195 from Highway 401, take Highway 74 (Westchester Bourne) South and follow it to Community Centre at 14020 Belmont Road. (NOTE: Westchester Bourne becomes Main Street, aka Belmont Road).

As always, Julie Mackey will be providing our Club with one of her excellent lunches – one of the many highlights of the day. So hope to see you there.

MAY 26, 2013 SPRING WALK and POT LUCK LUNCH

Our Annual Pot Luck Lunch and Spring Walk will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Carol Graham’s, 5030 4th Line, R. R 3, Acton, Ontario starting at 12 noon. This is always a favorite time for owners and dogs alike to get together with friends and catch up on what has been happening over the winter months and enjoy lots of GREAT food.

The dogs had a great time. Carol has a very large fenced –in “backyard’ so the dogs were set free to run, jump and play. They certainly had the opportunity to shed themselves of excess energy and gamble with their friends. After lunch we all enjoy a walk around the back 40 of Carol’s. The dogs enjoy and by the time they leave, they are ready for a nap in the car to get home. I think their owners are as well.

So bring your favourite food, your appetite and walking shoes. A Great Day for all.

MAY 26, 2013 BAKE SALE

We have the good fortune to have many talented bakers in our Club. For the past 2 years, we have held a bake sale in conjunction with the Spring Walk. Boy are the goodies special. We have cookies, cakes, brownies, jams, bread and even doggie treats. All funds go to Pyr Rescue.

MAY 26, 2013 CANINE GOOD NEIGHBOUR TESTING

Is your dog a Good Neighbour? Do you know? Do you have a friend who wants to see if their dog is a good neighbour? Well, this is the chance to find out. The Canadian Kennel Club allows for testing of all dogs (both pure bred and non-purebred) as a good neighbour. This test is devised to assess your relationship with your dog and your ability to control him or her.

IT IS NOT A COMPETITION. Your dog is evaluated on its ability to perform basic exercises and to demonstrate good manners while out in public.

In order to participate, dogs must be at least 6 months old, be up-to-date with vaccines and licensed. For pure bred dogs, it would be helpful if you bring your CKC registration number.

Before the Pot Luck Lunch, starting at 10:00 a.m. we will be holding Canine Good Neighbour Testing for all interested parties. The test takes approximately 10-15 minutes per dog.

Testing will cost $20.00 per dog (Cash or cheques only- payable at the time of testing) and passing dogs will receive a Certificate directly from the Canadian Kennel Club.

In addition, we have C.G.N. Badge of Merit Crests ($7.50) and C.G.N. Dog Tags ($15.00) available for purchase after completion of successful testing. A great way to show off your dog’s achievements.

If you are interested in having your dog tested, please contact either Carol (519) 853-3005 or Sandra at (905) 278-4096 or saylaw@rogers.com to confirm so that we will have enough forms, tags and badges available at that time.

REMEMBER – this is open to ANY DOG not just club members. So if you have a neighbour who wants their dog tested, bring them along. All breeds are welcome.

JUNE 8, 2013 GARAGE SALE

It is time once again for our Annual Garage sale, held at Sandra’s –983 Wales Avenue, Mississauga, Ontario. (905) 278-4096. THIS IS A FUND RAISING EVENT for Pyr Rescue.

As always, we need good quality donations for the event. To make it easy for you, if you are attending the Spring Walk, you can bring your donated items to Carol’s for me to pick up. Please bear in mind I cannot accommodate extremely large items, as I only have a car. Or drop off your items at my house any time. Please call ahead to ensure that I am at home.

Alternatively, feel free to take part in the Garage Sale itself. Maybe you do not enough items for sale to have a garage sale yourself. You will have a better opportunity of selling by taking part in a larger event. Plan on dropping by and setting up shop.

All attendees will be asked to donate 25% of their sales to the Club. This can be a great day for all, with minimal effort on everyone’s part. Let me know if you can attend.

JUNE 29, 2013 CANADA DAY CELEBRATION
