Dr. Garrett!

It is February and Garrett has been with us in his forever home for six months now. In that time he has accomplished so much with his new family and helped us overcome the loss of our first Pyr Jessie who at age 9 passed away due to cancer.

Garrett is a big strong proud fella and everywhere we take him he gets so much attention from people wanting to meet and pet him. We are sure Garrett feels that all people were put on this earth to give him attention, we call him our Walmart greeter!

Garrett loves his long walks, early morning and early evening, not to mention running around and wrestling in the snow.

Just recently Garrett finished top of his dog training class, and his favourite trick is rolling over. He is an extremely intelligent boy but like all Pyrs, likes to learn at his own pace.

More updates to follow!

We are the lucky ones
by: Jennifer

I would have to say that my family and I are the lucky ones to have Garrett in our lives, everyday is a snuggle fest with our handsome man. As far as the hat and glasses goes...he is such a HAM and loves to dress up. It's very comical to see a dog this size dressed up for Halloween as Count Garrett. (he was wearing a cape!)

Love the pictures
by: Martha

Garrett must be a very special PYR... I couldn't get mine to pose with a hat or glasses! Somehow I think I'd end up wearing both! LOL But the picture with Carter and Garrett sure looks like a familiar scene around here! Keep the updates coming... so heartwarming.

What a very fortunate dog to have a wonderful family like yours. :)

Well! We just passed our 1 year anniversary with Garrett. Wow, tell me that didn't just fly by! So much has happened, lets see…

In Garrett's first year in his forever home, he has, graduated top of his class, has experienced many hours of grooming and (dare I say ) pampering! He has been promoted to the unofficial title of “non-digital alarm clock”, where by every morning... (some earlier than others) usually around 6:15 a.m, Garrett will sit ever so close to my side of the bed, and pant and stare at me until I awake.

Sometimes if I am in a particularly deep sleep, (which is usually always) he will resort to putting his “big Pyr Paws” on my arms to ensure he doesn’t go unnoticed... Rain or shine (and please, lets not talk about his new raincoat, for fear of damaging his brawny male ego!) for his early morning walk. Which to this day, is so ingrained in my routine, that I miss them when I cannot be around to enjoy them.

Garrett has also learned that the chipmunks at LaSalle park are not always as excited to see him, as he is to see them! Stuffed animals purchased for his enjoyment, do not retain that cute, plush and intact look, much past 20 minutes! His drool was meant to be shared, and that he is the world's largest lap dog!

He has truly been a wonderful addition to our family, and I am sure this is much the same feeling for many Pyr owners. Over the past year we have now amassed more pictures of "the G man" than we have of our family and children, combined!

He has come a long way with us, in regards to socializing with other animals and people. I don’t think a day goes by where I don’t brag about him, to someone… anyone, that is willing to listen and bear with my doting over his many pictures in my blackberry… like a proud Dad.

Truth is, He is my best bud! And we are a better family for being a part of his life... Thanks “G Man” :)

Looks like Roman's dad!
by: HTan

Wow! What a beauty Garrett is.
He has the badger markings just like Roman
(Roman has the "Egyptian eye" that natural eyeliner around his eyes).

Garrett looks like Roman's dad. Lol!!!
But I know, a pyr from a rescue probably is fixed.
Roman is fixed too as we do not plan to breed him.

Roman's mom is an all white Great Pyr and his dad is a stud dog who supposedly has Roman's markings and is supposedly bigger than the dam and she is huge (over 100 lb, eats good I think).
I remembered her racing along the fence chasing after the glimpse of her son (Roman) being taken away by strangers (us).

It is a sight I will forever remember... hopefully in a near future we will bring Roman back to visit his mommy again.

Thanks for sharing your story. Wishing you much joy & happiness to your family.
