Addison's

I've not heard of a dog losing coat due to Addison's.

Your dog is getting too much prednisone presuming he is on prednisone. A dog on Florinef does not need much prednisone. Only if he is showing a lot of stress.

You need to find a vet with more Addison's knowledge.

Hair loss

I had noticed my Pyrenees loose hair and the coat texture really changed. We found out she was very hypothyroid. Not sure if you have run a thyroid test but this could be the reason for hair loss.

Addison's

There is enough steroid in the drug he's on now perhaps he cannot tolerate it. We have a rescue like that who has had to go on Percorten. It's very expensive.

Or, as someone else has commented, test for hypothyroid first.

Your dog's coat will not just grow back. Something else is going on.

Anonymous, after 180.00 worth of tests, thyroid being one, no answer. Just going to think positive it grows back . Thank you!

Just another thought. A friend of mine had had her dog dosed with flea/tick 'preventative'. His hair proceeded to fall out but he also had redness on his skin.

I suggest you read this article. Note that you shouldn't vaccinate a dog with a disease such as yours.

Our Pyrenees losing coat
by: Susan C

Our dog has Addison's Disease and later after recently presenting hair loss was also diagnosed with thyroid issues. She receives her hormone injection monthly and is on prednisolone. She is now also on a thyroid medication.

She was also showing "hot spots" and her skin turned black. She began to be severely bloated. The vet had us back off the pred. Now her skin has patches of crusty flakey skin. We bath her and work to clear the patches for her. This has been going on for almost a year.

She eats excellent non grain food. She gets wet and dry food. She gets coconut oil. Her remaining coat looks good but her skin is a mess! She has no hair on her tail.

What might help her skin?
Any advice?
Thanks

Addison's

It's hard to say what the issue is. She is on a lot of medication that may be unnecessary. That might be the reason.

Usually, you just put them on Florinef. If they can't handle that, there is another one to put them on. You only give them Prednisone when they are having very stressful situations. Not sure why he is on hormone injections but I'm not the vet.

Did you just start out on Florinef? Then move to Prednisone and then the hormone injection when nothing worked?

Get her onto raw diet. That is the purest. You can get your meat from your local butcher, sales at grocery stores etc.

You might change vets at this point. Too much medication.
