pink nose

I adopted my Pyrenees, "Wally" about 3 years ago. His nose has always had some pink areas but now it seems like it is almost all pink w/just black edge. I try to feed him good dog food and give him fish oil for his coat. What causes this and what can I do about it?

If your dog's breeding is unknown, the pink pigment may be the result of influence by another breed of dog, ie: Labrador. If your dog 's lineage is pure and guaranteed by a reputable and licensed breeder, the nose is always black.
To make sure all is OK, have your dog examined by the vet.

Pink Nose

Puppies will have pink noses but that will change with time. However, genetics are also involved if the nose remains pink. If two whites are bred (as opposed to one badger marked dog), pigmentation is lacking.

My girl used to get a pink nose in winter but that has stopped. It appears to be co-related with changing her to a raw diet. She gets all nutrients need naturally without all the filler from kibble and additives from kibble.

Just because the nose is not solid black does not mean it is not a pure breed or even of lower quality. Not every puppy is going to be show quality even from the highest of breed lines. It is just a lack of pigment the worse new is you won't be invited to Westminster, the good news is nobody cares. So enjoy your baby.

Rubbing off the black

My Pyr digs and digs and over time, I have watched the nose go from black to light brown and now to pink and every time it gets worse there is dirt all over the nose -- there is still black on the edges, but i was wondering about this... why is it every time someone asks a question about dewclaws, pink noses, etc., people immediately jump to mix breeds? I am getting kind of tired of defending my dogs legacy when I know damn well he and she are pure.. people need to get over the purity issues and stop jumping to conclusions from a single point or question.
