Kevin is a 9-year-old mix with maybe Retriever in him.We are still learning more about him. This is what we have so far:
We think he has not had much exposure to other dogs, people or outdoor life in general. He just is very unsure. Right now, everything is new to him, but we suspect he'll settle in once he figures out the routine, the other dogs, and his environment.
We are not sure how he would be with children. You would need to bring your children to meet him. See information for Dogs and Children.
If you have another dog, it should be female. Very slow introductions will be needed, and time to get used to her.
He will go to a single family home with a securely fenced yard of at least 5-feet.
Make sure you are an active family who will help him to be a confident dog.
He has been shaven. Never shave a double-coated dog. They need their coats to keep them cool in summer and warm in winter, but you need to keep them well-groomed. They lose their undercoat for the summer so the longer hairs, guard hairs, keep the elements off their skin and allow the air to flow through to keep them cool. They grow an undercoat for the winter that lies close to the skin keeping them warm in winter. The guard hairs, again, keep out the ice and snow. More information on double-coats.
