GPCSO Event Announcements

Keeping You and Your Pyr in Touch With Your Club

Greetings

Great Pyrenees Club of Southern Ontario (GPCSO) has a varied schedule of events throughout the year. This e-zine provides the latest and most current news about these events. It is our way of keeping you informed so there's no need to ever miss a GPCSO event again.

We also provide news about dog related events in the Club's territory that may be of interest to our members and visitors.

Hello!

Here are your GPCSO events for 2014. We will send out reminders from time to time so you don't miss any opportunity to enjoy your club.

Next club event is May 25, 2014

Our Annual Pot Luck Lunch and Spring Walk will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Carol Graham’s, 5030 4th Line, Acton, Ontario starting at 12 noon. This is always a favorite time for owners and dogs alike to get together with friends and catch up on what has been happening over the winter months and enjoy lots of GREAT food.

Carol has a very large fenced –in “backyard’ so the dogs were set free to run, jump and play. They certainly have the opportunity to shed themselves of excess energy and gamble with their friends. If that is not enough exercise, the walk after lunch will tucker them out and they will be more than ready to enjoy a nap on their drive home.

So bring your favourite food, your appetite and walking shoes. A Great Day for all.

Events for 2014

May 25, 2014 BAKE SALE and SILENT AUCTION

For the past few years, we have held a bake sale at the Spring walk. It has been very well received and all proceeds go to Pyr Rescue. We will be having a bake sale again this year so be prepared to purchase some delicious treats.

In addition there will be some Pyr “stuff” available during our Silent Auction held during the day. We always seem to have the good fortune to find rare items that are appreciated but certainly in short supply. So be sure to bid and check on your bids from time to time, you do not want to miss out.

DENIM SHIRTS: We will also be selling Denim shirts at the Spring Walk. We have either Light Blue or Dark Blue Denim available. Each shirt has our Pyr Logo on it. Various sizes are available and if we run out of a size, it can be ordered. The cost for each shirt is $45.00.

Surely a welcome addition to your wardrobe and a great way to greet the Spring.

MAY 25, 2014 CANINE GOOD NEIGHBOUR TESTING

We are planning to hold a Good Neighbour Test commencing at 10:00 a.m. We have applied for permission to hold the event, but it is not confirmed yet by the CKC. However, as we have never been turned down, we do not anticipate any problem. So, if you want your dog tested, show up between 10:00 – 12:00. The test only takes about 15 minutes per dog. ALL dogs (no matter what breed or mix) are entitled to be tested. Pass the word around to any friends who might want their dog to be evaluated.

Testing will cost $25.00 for GPCSO members and $30.00 for non-members. Each dog that passes receives a certificate directly from the CKC. In addition we will have some “Bling” - C.G.N. Badge of Merit Crests ($7.50) and C.G.N. Dog Tags ($15.00) - available for purchase after completion of successful testing. A great way to show off your dog’s achievements.

THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION. Your dog is evaluated on its ability to perform basic exercises and to demonstrate good manners while out in public. In order to participate, dogs must be at least 6 months old, be up-to-date with vaccines and licensed. For pure bred dogs, it would be helpful if you bring your CKC registration number.

June 14, 2014 GARAGE SALE

It is time once again for our Annual Garage sale, held at Sandra’s –983 Wales Avenue, Mississauga, Ontario. (905) 278-4096. THIS IS A FUND RAISING EVENT for Pyr Rescue.

If you are in the neighbourhood, drop by for a quick peak, purchase something or just to say “Hi”. I have lots of stuff left over from last year and hope to clear out my garage. So this year, I am not actively seeking any additional items, but if you really want to donate, I will not reject any offers.

August 8. 9 and 10, 2014 –Kilbride Dog Show

What a busy week-end this will be. 7 – count them – 7 dog shows in total. There will be 3 regular shows, 2 specialty shows, one herding/working group show and the Dogs of France Dog show. WOW!!

The National Pyrenees Club will be holding their Specialty on Saturday, August 9, and GPCSO will be hosting their Regional Specialty on Sunday, August 20, 2014.

The Dogs of France show should be very interesting – We should see some dogs that are rarely shown.

Kilbride Dog Show is being held at the Milton Fairgrounds – lots of parking and spaces for trailers, acres of space to use for walks and to spread out, close to restaurants and shopping. It should be a great week-end so please plan on attending and making this a special week-end for the dogs.

September - Annual General Meeting

Plans for the A.G.M. have not been finalized as yet but stay tuned. Updates regarding time and place to be announced later.

However, we are planning on having a Parade of Rescue Dogs following the meeting. If you have a rescue and wish to show case him or her, just let us know. We would also request a short write- up on your dog (maximum 100 words) which will be read as each dog is presented.

I know that those of us who have rescues are so proud of them – many have overcome harsh lives but have thrived in their new homes. Others were given up from happy homes due to unforeseen circumstances and they had to adapt to these changes. This will be your opportunity to let us all know about your pet and how their lives have changed.

Let’s make this a great showing!

That is the line-up for now. If we have missed any event, please accept our apologies and use the Contact Us Form on our web site to add your event. We will be happy to announce it.

We will send you follow-up reminders as each club sponsored event nears.
