Aggression

I have a 1 1/2 year old Great Pyrenees. I love him so much and learn more about this breed everyday having him. When he turned one year old, I guess he decided that he did not allow anyone through the gate, including my oldest daughter who lives next door. She had previously been at our home several times a week since we got him but one day, out of nowhere he turned on her and attacked. She loves dogs and takes in senior dogs that are completely unwanted. She has 9 presently, some are blind and were just left at shelters. No matter what I have tried I can't get him to like her or even tolerate her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. HIs name is Gilmore and we do not have a farm. He is a member of our family and treated like a prince.

Aggression

I suspect it didn't come out of nowhere.

This is not typical behaviour of a well-bred, well-socialized and handled Pyr by many many different people in his first 13 weeks of life. If he is from a CKC or AKC registered breeder, it's important to contact them to let them know this is happening.

Without proper breeding/socialization at breeders, these guardian dogs will do this.

Gilmore is maturing now, and this is what happens as they mature. They become the dog they will be unfortunately. I would guess he will do this when other guests come over as well.

I would suggest training him to the muzzle until you contact a certified animal behaviourist for a consult. In the meantime, keep him on leash with the muzzle on, or in his crate when your daughter comes over.

Attack
by: Anonymous

A friend of mine in LA went next door to visit her neighbor. She was there for about an hour.
The neighbor has a GP who is now 4 and they have had the dog since a pup.
As my friend was leaving, the dog bolted to her, and took a piece out of her leg. OUT OF NOWHERE. She knew the dog for 4 years. My friend was hospitalized for 6 weeks. I saw photos. It was wicked.
I think this was the second time the dog attacked someone and the authorities took the dog. I do not know the end of the story.

Dangerous
by: Donna

It sounds like the neighbours do not have guests over much. If they do, you can be certain that was not only the second bite. This is a very dangerous dog.

I'm glad your friend is now sort of okay. What a terrible incident for her. I hope she seeks help emotionally if needed.
