Anxiety?

by Adam

This is kind of a two-part question. First, my dog likes to stay by the front door all day. It is cold right now outside and the front door is like a mudroom type place that is colder than the rest of the house. I understand that Pyres like the cold but is it normal for him to lie there all day? I'm also concerned because it's a dirty area where we're constantly walking through with our shoes. Second, I keep my house 68° right now in the winter and my dog seems to constantly be overheating at night. He goes to the coldest room, he paces, and he lies on the cold floor along with his crate and his bed but I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

It's hard to say what is going on with him if anything.

How old is your dog? How often do you walk him? Pyrs love the cold and 68 would still be warm for him.

If he his older, perhaps he is having some pain that makes him restless. I've had older Pyrs who are restless at night because of arthritis. I have a homeopathic vet who has helped with a remedy so no more pacing, and sleep through the night.

If your dog is young, they definitely love the cold even more. Know that Pyrs are nocturnal and the younger ones usually take awhile before they can settle at night.

If you are still concerned, have him checked out by a vet for any possible medical issues.
