Any users of Zentrol or Composure

Our 3 year old Great Pyr suffers terribly from storm anxiety. Nothing works, neither Xanax or Benadryl. Has anyone had any luck with the above two medicines?

Storm anxiety

Adaptil worked very well for our Pyr. In addition, we have used Peppermint oil and Lavender oil to some effect (2-3 drops on each from paw).

Anxiety
by: Donna

I have heard Rock Rose, Bach Flower, can work.

See this website for more details:

I believe it's a drop in their drinking water once a day for two weeks and then use it as needed (You can also a drop to a treat, on food or rub it on the paws or ears).

It's not a guarantee it will work but it's worth a try. Other than that, give you dog a closet with his bed in it with the door ajar for him to come and go.

Adaptil didn't work for us

I tried adaptil, thunder shirts, dark closet, etc, xanax, benedryl, etc. Recently, harp music helped.

pyrs and storm anxiety
by: Anonymousmary

Having had a wonderful girl for 6 years, and 5 golden retrievers prior,we were very surprised when Lily dove under a bed at our cabin in Northern Wisconsin during a thunder storm.

She just doesn't like thunder storms. I do think it is the change of atmospheric pressure, the electrical charges and noise that prompt her to pace.

A thunder shirt has worked beautifully. She looks like a really large Q-tip. She also like to go into a dark closet.
