Working Male Dog for Hobby Farm

Sasha is a 4-year-old neutered male.

He previously lived outdoors full-time watching over the barnyard flock and doing a great job keeping coyotes away. We moved to somewhere he is inside full-time and he is miserable.

He doesn’t want to be around people all the time and we can’t give him what he needs. Sasha needs to be an outdoor dog again. He has lived peacefully with other dogs, puppies, kittens, cats, bunnies, chickens, ducks and horses.

Scared of loud noises and doesn’t like to be handled (nails clipped etc.) but will walk on a leash. Wanders so he will need to be contained. Allergic to wheat and barley.

How long have you had dog? Since a puppy

Where does dog sleep? In the porch

How is dog contained? In the porch or by chain

Housetrained? Not really. Improved with routine but will go if he wants to.

Walk quietly on leash? No, he pulls to where he wants to go.

Come when called? No. Needs to be contained by chain or by fence.

Food protection behaviour? No. Needs strict food routine or he doesn’t eat.

Destructive in house? Will counter surf and steal food. Tears paper.

Separation anxiety? No.

Has dog ever bitten a person? An animal? No

Has dog shown aggression towards adults? No. But he definitely prefers men. Avoids women. Values being left alone.

Has dog shown aggression towards children? No. Avoids them.

What is your dog’s reaction to guests coming onto your property? Into your home? Curious and friendly. Barks excessively until they are close enough to sniff then leaves them alone.

Has dog shown aggression towards other animals or pets? No. Avoids them.

We recommend the online teaching program Recallers or Home School the Dog, which is a modified version of Recallers, to gain an incredible connection with your dog to set him up for success. The Trust Technique is also an excellent way to gain a wonderful connection with your dog when helping him/her with any fear/anxiety issues.
