Sounds as if your dog is asking for social contact with the other canines he's seeing. If he can meet n' greet, so much the better. A good old dog park romp with others of his kind would be even better. Holding him back from contact with other dogs during your walks will cause him to become anxious.

If your walks with him are his only exercise, could you take him to an off-leash, fenced dog park? They are big working dogs and need much more than a sedate walk. If you can find another G P for him to romp with, so much the better as their play style will be similar.

His barking is telling you something. Good for you for trying to find an answer. For his food, canned doesn't have the crunch dogs need for their teeth health. Add some kibble or buy him a really huge raw knuckle bone. Carefully monitor his body condition as that big fluffy coat can hide weight loss. Good luck and thanks for rescuing.
