Beaten dog to get your trust

by Nick
(Newyork )

A Great Pyrenees female showed up at my door one night she's been beaten and abused with broomsticks I'm guessing but I just want to know how do I earn her trust and let her know that I will never hurt her?

It will take time. Lots of time. Be patient.

Let her come to you. It will take some time but it will happen eventually. I know you will be very kind to her.

Sit on the floor and don't make eye contact with her. Throw treats (high value like dehydrated liver) out towards her. As she starts to feel comfortable throw them but have them a little closer to you as you see she will move towards you.

Eventually, put the treat in your hand and hold it out. Talk to her while your doing all this. Tell her what a good girl she is.

When you're working around the house, throw treats near you. When she does take treats, tell her how good she is.

I think you get the idea.

Make sure to do your research on this breed.

Enjoy her. (And, make sure to have her spayed when she has gained your trust.)
