Biting and chewing

I have a 4 month old GP pup. He is obsessed with chewing and biting everything within reach including humans. He is not aggressive or mean. I know he is just playing but it is getting of hand. Is this normal? Will he eventually outgrown it? And yes he has lots of toys to chew on. He is just so energetic and can’t seem to control himself.

How much exercise does he get? He shouldn't get too much. Rule of thumb is 5 minutes of exercise per month so at 4 months he should get 20 minutes twice a day. Presumably he is crate-trained as dogs need a quiet place. If he is not, here is a crate-training program.

Is he getting enough sleep in his crate? It's important they get enough sleep as that is when they grow. Otherwise, they go 'off the deep end'.

As for chewing, make sure to keep him in an ex-pen when you aren't in his view. Ensure he has enough toys to play with. You might enough consider signing up for Home School the Dog. This will help you especially as there is much support from the instructors and the community. And, it helps you build a wonderful connection with your dog.

Your pup is doing the best he can with the information he has been given in the environment in which he is.

Have a look at this video of milestonesfor pups.

There is also a Free Dog Training Workshop if you want to try that first.
