Brush recommendations?

Hi. My 9 month old Pyr is blowing his coat. He does not like the slicker brush- it seems to irritate his skin. Anyone have a particular brush style or brand they can suggest? Thanks

Brushes

Slicker brush is the only way to go, really, and a comb. Be gentle with it, quick short strokes from the roots and the same with the comb.

Try giving a quick slicker brush every day and then a more thorough brush with the comb and slicker once a week.

Also, keep nails and dew claws trimmed regularly.

Grooming rake
by: Tressie

My foster Pyr is also blowing his coat. I use a grooming rake and its super gentle but pulls all the loose undercoat out without irritation. And it only pulls out what is already loose. Its great. For mats I use a furminator. My Saint Bernard is the long haired variety and her coat gets matted easily, even with weekly grooming. The furminator is a godsend, will detangle the worst mats quickly and efficiently.

I highly recommend a brush called Evolution. Each of the tines turns as it goes through their fur so it seldom gets caught. The brush is also inexpensive $10-$12. We even use it on our pasture dogs. They love it.
