Long double coated Pyrs
by: Donna

Know that all Pyrs have long coats. If the female has a short coat, she is not a Pyr. That said, pregnant females will molt their coats so they don't have much coat due to the change in hormones. Perhaps that is what happening. talk to the breeder about this.

Make sure you are getting a pup from an ethical/reputable breeder which is to say from a breeder who is registered with a recognized kennel club. If you are, the pup will come with registration papers. If you're in the States, It will be from a AKC breeder.

Both Pyrs will have double dew claws on each hind leg. Each dew claw will have a pad so two pads per hind leg.

Make sure to discuss your pup with the breeder. Ensure it will be socialized and handled by many many different people in that crucial first 8 weeks with the mother. This is so important to ensure it becomes a good canine citizen. That, an ongoing socialization and training from you.

Please do your research on this breed: You can start here

Enjoy your pup!

Adopt
by: Donna

Yes. Of course. Adopt one of the many dogs in need (including pups) from National Pyr Rescue or any rescue. These rescues are full of unwanted dogs because people didn't do their homework on these dogs.

They also did not spay and neuter and unwanted pups ensued.

You'll be so glad you adopted. Dogs seem to understand they have been given a second chance at life.

Adoption
by: Ed A. From NJ

Please be aware just like all dogs coats vary not every Pyrenees is show quality but if you are buying do your home work.

Do both parent have documents? Look them over for more than the coat. Head shape, ears, dew claws one part does not make the breed. But there are plenty of them and both the National Pyr Rescue and Big Fluffy Dog rescue know this, breed very well. Young or old consider saving a life.
