Doggy friend

We have a 10 month old pyrenese and 2 young children. We are interested in finding a doggy friend for our pyrenese. Is there a different breed known to live well with Pyrs? We have a good size yard but keep our dog in the house while we're away. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm not sure your dog is a Pyr. Looks more like Akbash since the coat is so short.

In any case, it depends on your dog and how he/she gets along with other dogs.

You haven't said the sex of your dog. If male, get a female, if female get a male. We never recommend dogs of the same sex together when it comes to big whites.

If you have neighbours with dogs, you might consider simply having play visits with them.

don't do it

You have 2 young children and a big dog. Think carefully before you add another dog that is equal to yours in size and weight, to your household.

If you are looking for a playmate for you dog because its bored, you already do not have the time to give the dog you have enough exercise to relieve its boredom. Adding to that burden with another dog may well turn out to be a "what was I thinking?" moment.

Find a playdate pooch for your dog instead. Remember too, that both dogs will come to depend on these playdates, so plan carefully so that you can make 'their time' a part of your unbreakable schedule.

I agree with Anonymous. Well said.

Two young children and a young Pyr and you want to get another Pyr. You need to spend time with the 10-month old in working with him and going on walks with him.

You'll have a handful with another Pyr who will also need work and two young children to look after.

Find someone else who has a dog with whom your dog can play. That would be the most sensible thing to do.

I can give you another way to go. First you need to know the other dog needs to be of the oppasite sex as a pyre will not do well with a same sex large dog (promise).i am in my third pyre and my second male. I have found the perfect pal! I have a female Newfoundland! This little girl follows Maxiemoose everywhere and he doats on her! Just read up on newfies they need lots of care when young but 6 year old maxie loves 15 month old Nava who is now ready for spaying. Maxie has long been neutered. Please no great newfnees.
