excessive fur coat

by Joyce Snider

My pyrenees has way too much fur. She has a very large mane of fur. Excessive fur on back legs as well. Much, much more than my other pyrenees dogs.

That's okay! It's great insulation for them in winter and summer. Never shave double-coated dogs. The outer coat gets wet and keeps the sun off their skin, the undercoat stays dry.

We would be hot with a coat this big but not dogs. They sweat through their paw pads and by panting.

Keep your Pyr well-brushed once a week with a slicker brush and comb to keep him free of mats and the skin healthy.
