Full coat?

by Tina
(Taylorsville, KY)

At what age does a Pyr get a full coat? My Samson is registered full blooded, 5 and a half months old, and just now getting what looks like adult fur. His tail is just beginning to plume. Saw a nine month old today and she had a very full coat.

Full coat

Can't tell by the pic. From my experience, Pyrs don't have their full coats until two years old.

coat length
by: Anonymous

Hi, I also have an exactly 5 month old pyr puppy male..he looks just like yours and his tail is beginning to grow longer and the hair on it is spiraling. the past two weeks his coat has changed almost daily. his hair along his back is very soft yet wavy criss crossing waves..is sides are shorter and still short down.
so i guess we will wait and see what happens next..mine is slender and tall and not thick in body..he eats best food and weighs 50 lbs. he is a parvo survivor at 8 weeks old. how much does your weigh and is it male or female?

Thank you!
by: Tina

Thanks so much for the answers! That really keeps me from being worried.
My Samson is a male (neutered ) and weighed 55lbs when the picture was taken. I need to get him weighed again- he is growing! He is filling out and becoming more muscular. My daughter bought him from a breeder that breeds for size, so he may get huge!
His fur now is very wavy and swirly.

She'll have seen the mom and dad at the breeders. The breeder will have told you what weight he should come out at given his structure and based on the weight of the parents.

The breeder will be happy to talk to you about it.

5mo Truffles
by: Raven

My puppy is 5mo. She seems to be changing daily, even her face has changed. I'm not sure how much she weighs. She is getting tall, long legs. She has the sweetest personality kinda a goofball but sweet. UNTIL you feed her then you better be careful or you will lose ur hand! She has tried to bite me.

Resource Guarding
by: Donna

It sounds like your pup is resource guarding. This will only increase so you need to work with her, now. You should also ask for advice from your breeder.

Have a look at this article for some help.

Enjoy your pup!
