Great Pyr changing colour

by Linda
(Lynchburg, Virginia)

When we got her as a puppy she was all white with just a hint of beige on her ear tips. Now at almost one year she has developed a beige head and has two black spots. Is this normal or did I get fooled into believing she was purebred?

You couldn't have been fooled into believing she is a purebred. If she is a purebred, you will have met with the breeders (registered with a recognized kennel club so, in your case, it would be American Kennel Club).

You will have her AKC registration papers that says she is purebred. They indicate her lineage. You will also have seen her parents.

However, colours can change as they mature, get darker or lighter. I'm not sure about the black spots. Pyrs don't have those.

Does she have two dew claws on each hind leg?

If you got her from a backyard breeder, you don't know what you get. Know that over 2.4 million healthy dogs are put down in the USA every year because no wanted them.

DONNA is 100% correct on this one except the black spots. Pyrenees do not lack pigment to produce black spots though it is more rare then the light spots or even grey. The location of color is also specific. Limited to the head ears and rump. That is how I come to belive. But check out this AKC bredeers clain. Bar6diamondranch.com

Sadie was a homeless mans puppy(a carny)and was taking her with I puppy sat And he eventually gave her to me.Shes all GP but she is mixed, looks like a golden Pyrenees.Shes white W/apricot(ear tips & little line down her back). She almost looks like shes got a tan in the summer. Her face especially, and then she'll turn all white in winter. She's beautiful ,hyper possive, loving ,smart as heck & smaller than most GP's I've fallen in love W/a dog for the first time since I was a little girl.Iam truly blessed.Thank you Lord

Great Pyrenees
by: Jose

Hello, not everyone has the opportunity to find a kfc purebreed registered but some people who breed dogs not registered are respectful, according to your question Great Pyrenees some times they can have black spots, brown and beige. However a dense coat, double claw ,size, ears down and tail in "S" are a great proof to know that you have a Great Pyrenees. :)
