My Pyr has a very matted undercoat , think it needs shaving, Can anyone recommend a groomer in the GTA. My pyr is fussy and not the easiest to handle.

Never shave your dog. You need to groom your dog daily with a slicker brush to keep it 'fresh'. Ad, then, once a week with a slicker and a comb. You can probably find a basic grooming course in your area.

Pyrs need their double coats to stay warm in winter and cool in summer. In order for it to function efficiently, it must be kept groomed and mat free.

If you don't want to groom regularly, find a master groomer to do it monthly.

Never let the coat get to the point of being matted. It's very painful for the dog.

Search for master groomers in your area via google. A master groomer will never shave a double-coated dog unless it is absolutely necessary.

My dog had the same problem and I had the matts shaved under her. She is much happier now. I did not want her to have to undergo hours of grooming the matted areas. I agree regular grooming is a must.
