Walking

Puppies don't need to walk too far but you can start a little walking. Puppies need to play, eat and sleep as they like.

You can increase the distance as they get older.

Keep puppy on a leash so he doesn't get hurt by the cattle. He'll just get used to them. Make sure he is separate from them when you are not there.

It depends on the dog but if male, probably 15 months before he can be left alone with the cattle. You will be the judge of that. Depending on the number of cattle, lay of the land, and number of acres, you might need more than one dog. Coyotes will lure one dog away while the other goes in for the kill. Also, it gives relief to the other dog(s).

You might consider an older dog who is ready to learn to work to mentor your pup once the older one figures it out with your help. National Pyr Rescue is a good place to find a dog.

Consider joining an LGD fb page who uses only positive reinforcement training. The dog is only as good as the trainer. Such a lovely bond is created with PR training. Never punish a dog. If they do something in your eye that is wrong, it's because they were not taught the correct way.

Try this page but also do your own research.
