Guarding ducks

I recently got 3 ducks for my Great Pyrenees to watch. He was outside with them a jumped on the one, are they safe with him is this normal?

This behaviour is normal if you just put him in with them without proper introduction.

You must introduce him properly to any other animal. Keep him leashed and only allow him near the ducks when you are there. Let him get used to them. Pay attention to him and if it looks like he will go for them, give a 'ah ah' and bring him away until he settles. Walk in and amongst them.

When you are not there, keep him separate but in the vicinity of the ducks so he gets used to them. Once you feel it is safe, you can then leave him alone.

You didn't mention the age of your Pyr. They should never be left alone with any animals until at least a year old. They just want to play and those ducks are like toys.

If he is older, once he is used to them and bonds with them, he can be left alone with them.
