Hair balls

A couple of months ago my male 5:5 years old through up a hair ball two thirds the size of a golf ball. Since then he’s thrown up twice a mixture of food and hair. What gives? I’m beginning to believe he’s part cat. We had a visit to the vet for a full check up as I’ve noticed his energy level is way down . Everything checked fine, all tests were negative. I did believe that his lack of energy was related to summer as historically he has dialed it way back in the hot weather.
