Men

I have had a Great Pyrenees 15-month-old pup for four weeks. He is wary and frightened of my husband who has never uttered a cross word to him or shown him any disapproval. This is hard to understand. Do you have any explanation?

Fear of men
by: Donna

You don't know the background of this pup.

I suspect he has been abused by men in the past which is why he is fearful of your husband.

A lot of work has to be done to assure him he doesn't have to have fear. This will take much time and patience on your husband's part.

Treats, sit on the ground at his level and let him go to your husband. It will take much time for him.Don't attempt to pet him but let him go to your husband. You won't see any improvement for awhile but the dog will figure it out eventually although he may always have fear.

Never utter a mean word at this dog or raise a hand. Always positive-reinforcement.

Make sure to have him neutered at the appropriate age which is around two.

There are already over 1 million dogs being euth'd in the USA a year. The fact that you found this guy is evidence.
