Outside dogs?

We are fostering a pyr/anatolian mix. He is about a year and a half. He will not go inside any structure. It's been raining for days and we have two huge dog houses and an open shed, not to mention the house where we've been trying to lure him very gently. He'll have none of it. He's wet and miserable. He's very shy and skittish. Help!

Getting him into the houses
by: Craig

I know this sounds simplistic, but have you tried putting treats in the house and lots of praise when he gets near them? Obviously something has upset him in the past, so allot of gentle positive reinforcement (with lots of treats!) might do the trick.

I've yet to host a Pyr that does not respond to food.....

Shelter
by: Donna

Have you tried tying a frozen Kong filled with peanut butter, meat, cheese or anything deemed delicious by your dog? You may need two or three Kongs so when one runs out, you can tie the next one out.

Perhaps having windows in the dog house would help. Clothing with your smell on it.

Is he meant to be a companion dog? If so, you should be letting him in the house to be with you. That would be where he should be.

been there, done that
by: TJ

Millie, our almost 1 year old was 5 mos old when we got her from her previous people. It was the strangest thing, she would not come inside the house. We had to go out and catch her, physically pick her up and carry her in. One day I discovered if I propped the door open, and moved away from the door, she would come in. She doesn't have issues with doors at home anymore, but she still doesn't like to go thru strange doors.
