Outside - no thanks

We adopted a 4 year old Great Pyrenees a couple of days ago. She is great! However, this is the second day she will not go outside and we don't know why. Does she have something wrong with her medically? We just don't understand. Please help.

Thank you.

It's hard to say what is wrong. We can't diagnose anything online. Perhaps she was in a home, previously, with shock fencing. If she has ever been shocked by a fence, that would be one reason she doesn't want to go outside if you're trying to put her in the backyard.

Will she go out the front door? That may be what you have to do right now for her to do her business on leash. Give her high value treats if she takes one step outside. Another treat for a second step. And carry on like that.

She is no doubt scared so you have to give her some time to settle in. Some dogs will hold it for a couple of days out of stress.

The rescue from which you acquired your dog may be able to better assess the problem if they have the background on this dog.

Make sure you have a large crate for her where she can have her own space, and go to for security in your home where no one can bother her. Crates are a great tool to have for training.

Here is some good information on rescued dogs.
