Rescue dog won't pee

by Kimberly
(Denton tx)

Hi everyone
I got my great Pyrenees from a shelter two weeks ago sometimes she goes both potties but most times she just sniffs around I keep outside for about 30 mins at a time and still nothing. The shelter says she is 3 years but she acts older. I just don’t understand why she won’t pee.

Peeing outside
by: Donna

You have a dog of whom you do not know the background. She is not sure of anything right now. It will take time, but you need to build up her confidence. She doesn't know you and you don't know her. It takes time.

Put her on a schedule so you take her out at, say, 8:00 am., 12:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and before bed. Keep her on leash in the house for now so if you see her go to pee/poo, say nothing take her outside, on leash, to do her business. When she does, a quick 'good girl' praise helps. Take her to the same spot to pee/poo each time. You can start taking her on walks once she starts to feel more comfortable in your home.

Have a look at this podcast. It talks about rescue dogs and it is spot on.

You might also consider signing up for Recallers. It is a great online program that will help you grow a close relationship with your new dog. It's a very supportive community and the instructors can help you with issues you are having with your dog.
