Running speed

How fast can Pyrs run? Ours is a large male - 135 lbs., but FAST, particularly when running after something, like a rabbit, or hawk flying over the yard!

This question keeps coming up! I'm sure you have been stunned by the speed of your dog's reaction to 'something'. The explosive nature of it is always impressive.
However, 'running' at that speed is something entirely different. They cannot maintain that initial speed for a great distance...only as far as it takes to get the dog to his goal. The dog decides when and what and how far he feels he needs to go to take care of business. He will warn you but you had better be very aware of his body signals at all times to hear it.
If you were to try to force your dog to run a long distance at speed, you will cause him to die. So, don't even think about how to 'clock' it.
