Shaving paws

by Steve G
(Concord, Ga)

Can GP or Anatolian paws be shaved to keep from being tangled and muddy, and/or (in my case) one was bitten by a predator and has at least four puncture wounds? I want to de-matt their coat, including paws, but don't know how much to take off or if it would even be good for them. For the healing on the paws, we want shave or at least cut some back, apply salves and dressings? She received these wounds three days ago and only now putting slight weight on it.

If it means healing the paw, yes, shave the affected area. Don't take it right down but take it down enough to let the air get to it, and keep the hair out of it until it heals.
