Short coat

My 16 week old Great Pyrenees has a rather short coat will he develope a longer thicker coat as he matures?

genetic mix?

A lot depends on whether he is a pure Pyr or mix. His coat will definitely get more bushier either way as he matures and days get shorter. If he is pure Pyr his coat should get longer. Just how long depends on genetics as well.

But if he's a mix, its hard to know for certain. Have you seen his parents? That will give you a better idea of what to expect.

From what you are saying, I suspect your dog didn't come from a reputable breeder. These are all questions the breeder would be answering for you.

As Tressie says, if you had, and I hope you did, seen the parents, that is the kind of coat your dog will have.
