Skin color

Is pink skin a common trait? Mine has pinkish skin and lots of brown beauty marks...?

interesting question

This question intrigued me, so I checked out my Pyr. He has some grey along his shoulders and sure enough, the skin under there was also a bit darker. Not grey exactly, but there is a definite pigment change compared to skin under the white portion of his coat.
As to why, I can only think this coloration could have something to do with the presence of ancient genetics, with all of that culminating in this breed's appearance at the present day.

I would just like to add this one little thing to my post: pink skin can sometimes be prone to melanoma(s).
It may be a good idea to keep a careful watch of your dog's 'spots'....if they change, become darker, raised, or irregular in shape do take your dog to your vet without delay. Taking this precaution may save his life.

Skin Colour

I’m trying to ID the breed of my sweet big girl, Blue. She is either a Great Pyrenees or Kuvasz. Because her tummy is a soft pinkish white with dappled areas of grey and she is Snow White, double coated as well as the other traits of a Pyrenees. I’ve learned that a Kuvasz has solid dark skin and possibly a Pyrenees can have skin that has light pigmentation with dappled areas of a darker pigment. Blue came from a puppy mill that was shut down. The dogs were dispersed to several non kill shelters; that’s where I adopted Blue. She’s now 2 1/2 years old and the most amazing, loving and loyal dog I’ve ever had. I’m smitten with my Blue bear.
