The smell communicates with the predator and with you .
Also , another smell of contentment is like hot buttered salted popcorn Milo does this when he is happy and feels safe and cozy.

She is putting out a scent as a huge warning not to come anywhere near her territory. My dogs do the exact same thing. very protective over her territory.
