Why does my Pyr howl all the time?

My Great Pyrenees, Bode, is 4 years old and has recently (over the last year) started howling. Initially, it happened when he was left alone but now it occurs when we are with him. Once he starts, he doesn't stop until he's done, even if we reassure him. Could he be depressed? He has lots of company- we have 5 dogs and a cat and my husband is retired. He spends most of his day outside with his sister, a Bernese Mountain dog, Lindsey.
Do you have a advice?
