*STAYING IN THE FAMILY*

Courtesy Post - Sarge

Location: Mount Albert, Ontario

DoB: Unknown 2023

Required:

He is comfortable around livestock, but he will go as a companion dog.

Single family dwelling with a securely fenced yard of at least 5 feet.

Calm household — ideally as the only dog, or with a well-matched quiet female canine companion (the latter is preferred as he really does enjoy being around others) The Rescue recommends a female companion as same sexes do not always see eye-to-eye.

Family familiar with livestock guardian breeds or large outdoor-loving dogs

Home with adults or older children

Patient and loving adopter who understands his gentle nature and continued confidence building

About Sarge:

He is a truly special soul — loyal, sweet, sensitive, and quiet — who just needs the right environment to continue thriving.

We took Sarge in so he would not be returned to a life of isolation, and we are determined to help him find his forever home where he will be cherished and understood.

Sarge this handsome big fluffy currently lives with two other dogs, but the young one, with whom he has a bond, has tons of energy. This has turned into escalating conflict. This overwhelms him which is the reason he needs a new family.

He also lives with cats, chickens, sheep and goats whom he does not bother.

He has been loving and gentle with our children (ages 10 and 13), but due to his size, we recommend a home without small children who may tug, climb, or startle him. Sarge flourishes with respectful companionship and a calm environment.

He is a gentle giant. He was quite timid when he arrived and was startled by daily noises. With patience and consistency, he has come a long way.

He now feels confident moving in and out of the house, though he prefers to spend most of his time outside and even chooses to sleep outdoors. Indoors he is quiet, well-mannered, and very calm. He has shown no food aggression and is excellent with cats (we have two that he spends time indoors with).

He walks very well on leash and enjoys watching the world go by — squirrels, passing cars, birds — he finds it all fascinating.

Pyr Rescue recommend the online teaching program Recallers or Home School the Dog and/or the Trust Technique to gain an incredible connection with your dog to set him up for success.

If you are interested in meeting Sarge, please complete the adoption application at adoption application.
