Our GP-mix chose my husband and I to be her parents while she was staying at a local shelter. For the first eight weeks we had her, she was a frightened ball of nerves, but over time she has become the most loving, playful, cuddly, and interesting family member we could ever hope for.
I am asthmatic, and one day while we were walking along the side of a hill, I had a mild asthma attack. I had forgotten my medication at home so I sat down to rest with my legs stretched out infront of me. Finnighan immediately stood over me like a statue, in what seemed like a protective stance. Her back feet were beside my left knee, and front feet beside my right knee. She was hyper-vigilant, glancing around the open space like a secret service agent who was "securing the area". I was touched and grateful that even a two-year old mixed Pyr would do this.
I get a big lump in my throat when I think of this and also when I read other people's accounts of their Great Pyrs' smarts and loyalty.
