Lethargy

We live on a fast flowing river in NC and have a wonderful 5 year old Gt Pyr who is loved by everyone within a 5 mile radius, yes she visits them all on her many wanderings! We get many texts stating “Biggies been here and had lunch”. She has always used the river for fresh drinking water, for visiting tubers, kayakers and just families having fun and never failed to wade out to say Hi. This year we have seen her become lethargic and uninterested in the river except for drinking. Should we be worried about her health? The Hiwassee River is very rocky and hard on the feet so we thought maybe she is so smart she has realized why out herself thru the pain, more people will come!!!!

Lethargy

It sounds like she needs a visit to a vet if her behaviour has changed. Something else may be going on. Wholistic vets are a good option.

As for wandering, be careful. You may come across some people who are less than enthusiastic about Biggie being on their property. Pyrs should always be contained in a securely fenced area.

Run thyroid test
by: Martin

My Pyr became lethargic; would not walk far, low energy, etc. I took her to the vet and nothing came from the examination until he looked at the results of the blood work which indicated she has a low thyroid condition. He put her on a twice daily pill and after several weeks of this, she is completely back to normal.
