School Fight

by Dana Kittner
(Coshocton, OH)

We adopted an 18 month old Pyr and changed her name to Sadie. As urban dwellers, we are committed to walking her 2-3 Times a day. One night, it was very late and on the home stretch through the backside of the local school, Sadie growled and began low barks while looking in a different direction. Soon I heard the commotion and we went to check it out, seeing two car loads of young men fighting. We stood 6feet away from one of the vehicles while Sadie began barking more and more. Soon, one group fled in a distant SUV while the other group shouted, "let's get out of here" and ran to get into the vehicle we were near. I called in the incident and did not fear the situation as we had lived in the inner city and had pyrs before. It was neat to see how she "knew" there was trouble.

Good to know that having your dog with you allowed you to 'feel' safe. You were not.

Being urbanites, you should have known better than to risk yourselves and your dog by staying to watch. Next time be more cautious. The only thing exceptional about your story was that you came away unscathed. Luck was on your side.
