Will allowing a pyr puppy to sleep and lounge around indoors with non working dogs and humans “ruin” their work ethic?

Guardian Dogs

No, not in my opinion. You need a well-rounded dog who becomes house-trained, and socializes with humans especially guests coming into the house. This is a puppy who needs to be a puppy.

You should consider training puppy as well so she makes a great bond with you. There are a couple of excellent online programs to show you the way. There is Recallers which runs for a year or Home School the Dog which is a shortened version, three months, of Recallers.

Their instinct is to be guardian dogs. Just make sure pup has plenty of time outside with the livestock while on leash, and learns how to be around them. Make sure you are there at all times when pup is around the livestock. You don't want pup to be hurt or the pup to hurt the livestock. And, it's important she gets lots of sleep. They grow while they sleep.

When you aren't there, pen the pup near/arounded the livestock so he becomes accustomed to them even more and stays safe.

As an aside, depending how much property, livestock, and the lay of the land, you may need more than one dog. Coyotes are smart and will entice one dog away from the herd while the other will go in for the animals.
